Towards Reconciliation Service

Launch of National Apology.
February 24, St James Anglican Church, King Street Sydney

You’re invited to an ecumenical service of prayer, reflection and contrition at St James (Anglican) Church, King Street, Sydney on Friday 24th of February 2017.

The service, scheduled to begin at 6.30 pm, will feature the commissioning of a national apology to LGBTIQ+ fellow Australians. This apology will include a commitment to do all we can to end the hurtful discrimination which Christians of all denominations have been responsible for throughout Australian history.

This national apology will go ‘live’ on the Equal Voices website at the conclusion of the service.

Equal Voices recognises that church services may be confronting to those who wish to attend. For this reason, the event will be welcoming, with minimal formality. Attendees will have the opportunity to express their apologies and sorrow by way of symbolic gesture and word, set within a context of prayer. We will also hear stories from those who have been hurt by the teaching and practice of Christian churches.

We hope that this service and the release of the national apology will be a small but significant step towards reconciliation and healing amongst our LGBTIQ+ siblings and their loved ones.

Following the Service, Equal Voices will be hosting a Q&A Information Session for media and anyone with questions. This will be hosted near the church at St James Hall, Level 1: 171 Phillip Street, Sydney.
